The small village of Mogyoród has been the home of the Hungarian GP since it’s first Grand Prix in 1986. At the heart of some breath-taking neighbouring locations, the GP holds a central base for a European adventure to surrounding popular tourist hotspots. With the race fast approaching us on Sunday 4th August, and with some of the best Formula 1 racing we’ve seen in years in recent races; we thought we’d look at making the most of the opportunity by combining the GP with an amazing, action packed weekend holiday to interesting, affordable sites.

A Mini Adventure In Budapest

The GP provides the base for an exciting summer tour around iconic locations. Prior to Sunday’s action, why not explore the Hungarian capital, Budapest? For the sightseers, the cityscape is covered with architectural landmarks, such as the Buda Castle and Castle District. Take a ‘Budget Buda Castle Tour’ and admire the beautiful attractions and sights on a 2hr walk.

Alternatively, relax; take it easy at one of the many popular mineral spas with Turkish and Roman influence. Indulge Hungarian culture and start the weekend with a soak in the thermal, healing waters of Széchenyi Baths. Furthermore, the Danube River bisects the city, providing a stunning view of the area at night. The landmarks lining the banks of the Danube reflect beautifully on the dark waters. So why not relish in the calm of a 1hr Danube River Cruise, quenching an appetite for relaxation.

Continue the adventure; Budapest to Vienna

From Budapest, it’s well within reach to visit neighbouring cultural delights, such as the capital city of Austria, Vienna. Continue the adventure with a short 2hr30 train ride via Rail Europe, for as little as €30! Itch that site seeing scratch with a trip to one of Vienna’s magnificent imperial palaces, like the Hofburg and Schönbrunn Palace. On the other hand, experience Vienna’s artistic offerings with a Classical Concert in Vienna’s St. Anne’s Church: Mozart, Beethoven, or Schubert. A tad too relaxed perhaps? Then Prepare for Sunday’s action with a little thrill, excitement and romance atop the Wiener Riesenrad Giant Ferris Wheel.

Still searching for more? Then why not spice things up with a trip to Prague for its cultural attractions and pumped up nightlife?

Top it off with a trip to Prague?

To finalise this European adventure, why not top it off with a trip to the Czech capital, Prague? A quick flight from Budapest will see a journey between 1-2hrs, for a modest sum of around €100-€200. The City of a Hundred Spires blows visitors away with its historic landmarks, featuring Gothic churches and the medieval Astronomical Clock. Get ready to hit the town at some of Prague’s legendary establishments. Wind down with drinks and a boogey at M1 Lounge Bar & Club. Alternatively, for something a little quieter, head over to Tynska Bar and Books for live music performances. There’s plenty to choose to satisfy those entertainment needs!
